Welcome!

I’m Andy Wilson, an artist with a love for detail and realism. With a background as a retired army medic and photographer, my passion lies in immortalising fleeting moments in the permanence of fine art.

Beyond pencil and paper, I find creativity in many forms—whether in the melody of a banjo or the clacking of knitting needles. I’m an audiobook addict and the in-house servant for our dog, Dixon.

What Do I Do?

Working with a mixture of graphite, charcoal, mechanical pencils and pastels, I strive to create pieces that are not only lifelike but deeply resonant.

Each drawing is a meticulous exploration of detail, light, and texture, refining every stroke to bring subjects to life. My work is diverse yet deeply personal, spanning beloved pets, wildlife, equine portraits, people, and homes.

How does it work?

  • First, we’ll have a chat and I’ll ask for a Reference Photo – image must be high quality and in focus/correctly exposed. I may ask for multiple images to choose from. Some edits may be made to the image to improve it before beginning the piece. The final reference piece will be sent to you for approval before starting the drawing. We’ll also discuss your image size and shipping.
  • We can decide on the medium and paper type together to best suit your subject.
  • 25% non-refundable deposit is required in order to book your commission.
  • You’ll receive in-progress photo updates and an image of the final piece.
  • Balance payment will then be requested and after payment, we’ll organise the shipping or collection of your finished piece.

Reference Photo Tips:

    • Make sure that your subject is well lit. Sunlight is great but not too harsh. A cloudy day can make coats/hair look a little dull.
    • Use an original image where possible, not one saved from social media as this damages the quality.
    • Make sure that your subject looks their best and is in good humour!
    • Please don’t use flash, natural light is best.
    • If you need help, ask, if you are local, chat with me about a reference image shoot!
    • If you wish to use a photograph by a professional photographer as a reference image, please obtain written consent for the image to be used. Copyright is important!

What my clients say

We are absolutely thrilled with the portrait that Andy created of us. The attention to detail, the warmth captured in our expressions, and the skillful use of light and shadow truly reflect his incredible talent. The reference photo, taken by his wife Milca, was incredibly beautiful on its own, but the way Andy brought it to life is something truly special.

What makes this experience even more meaningful is not just the art itself, but the wonderful people behind it. Andy and Milca are both incredibly kind, thoughtful, and welcoming individuals who made the entire process enjoyable and personal.
Their passion for their craft shines through in everything they do, and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with them.

This portrait is not just a piece of art; it’s a cherished memory made possible by two amazing and talented people. Thank you both for this beautiful gift!
